With our great nation in a seemingly downward spiral with no end in sight there’s an interesting facet of state law that has been greatly ignored and underused: Nullification.

Its essence states: if a law enacted in the central government is not Constitutional, states have the right and duty to ignore them. To not enforce them. To declare them null and void and without power. Period.

It’s been done in the past, and several of our states’ leaders are waking up from their porkbarrel-induced follow-the-leader slumber and beginning to awaken to the fact that our states do NOT have have to obey federal legislation forced on them that clearly violates the negative powers provided to it by the Constitution. For instance,

  • Virginia, Idaho, and 34 other states are fighting the federal healthcare law,
  • Arizona is protecting its borders,
  • Washington State, Oklahoma, and Tennessee are fighting cap-and-trade legislation, and
  • Michigan is defending it citizen’s 2nd amendment rights by regulating intrastate commerce and not allowing itself to be subject to any Federal mandates.

As the Federal government tries to expand its ever-hungry reach into areas that it has no authority over, nullification is the very constitutional tool our nation’s Founders envisioned to protect people from an overreaching federal government.

We are indeed a nation of Laws, and not a nation subject to the ideological whims of it’s leaders.

One point that Americans have to remember (or learn, as our public education system will never teach us this) is that we are the United States of America  – individual sovereign states held together by a voluntary bond of a unified government, and not a United Federal Government of America that is subdivided into 50-odd states… Every state has its own sovereignty and ability and duty to resist tyranny from above and to declare unconstitutional laws null and void.

Any Taxpaying American (that would be you) interested in learning more about the roles and relationships and authorities that the Federal Government has (or does NOT have) would benefit from reading this book. It’s an easy read, and it will help you make empowered decisions on who to support in your upcoming local elections, as well as giving you the ability to see “between the lines” when you hear of such sweeping reforms from above that will cost you and your family money, resources, and freedoms in the future (and those of your children!) if your local and state legislators do not take the corrective actions necessary to protect the freedoms and resources of the people put under their charge.
